Lagos has increased charges for number plates to between N37,825 for private vehicles and N210,175 commercial vehicles, depending on type, according to a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the state government.
Fees for various categories of driver’s licence have also been raised, all in line with the new rates for vehicle number plates and driver’s licence across the country.
The Joint Tax Board (JTB) had earlier mandated a standard payment of N18,750 for standard private and commercial number plates against the old rate of N12,500 – as reported by The PUNCH.
The JTB rates for number plates and driver’s licence raised from old to new, excluding bank charges, are as follows:
· Fancy (customised) N80,000 to N200,000
· Motorcycle N3,000 to N5,000
· Articulated vehicle (three plates) N20,000 to N30,000
· Out of series N40,000 to N50,000
· Government fancy N15,000 to N20,000
· Driver’s licence (three years) N6,000 to N10,000
· Driver’s licence (five years) N10,000 to N15,000
· Motorcycle/tricycle driver’s licence (three years) N3,000 to N5,000
· Motorcycle/tricycle driving licence (five years) N5,000 to N8,000
The statement on the Facebook page of the Lagos State government said: “It has come to the notice of the Lagos State Government that after the upward review of Number Plates and Driver’s Licence fees by the Joint Tax Board, false and exorbitant Number Plates prices have gone viral on social media, causing confusion and misinterpretation.
“For the avoidance of doubt, therefore, the approved prices inclusive of other charges, are listed as follows:
“Blue Number Plates – N37,825
“Red Number Plates – N41,300
“Change of Ownership Blue Plates – N33,825
“Change of Ownership Red Plates – N38,300
“Fancy Number Plates – N210,175
“Fancy Motorcycle Plates – N54,000
“Articulated Plates – N57,650
“Loss Plates/Defaced – N21,250
“Driver’s Licence Fresh/Renewal 3 years – N10,350
“Driver’s Licence Fresh/Renewal 5 years – N15,450
“Lagosians are hereby advised to go to Motor Vehicle Administration Agency’s stations to confirm the real prices before any transaction.”
The rates for private and commercial number plates are about 100 per cent higher than the JTB rates approved by the federal government, according to The PUNCH.
