One of the two residents taken away on Monday by gunmen on Grow Homes Estate in the Chikakore axis of Kubwa in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja was released on Tuesday after the payment of N10 million.
Two sources on the estate confirmed that the victim was freed upon payment of N10 million after the criminals agreed to reduce the N100 million originally demanded.
Police had on Monday rescued one of the victims in a gun fight with the kidnappers.
“The other man has been released. Initially, the kidnappers demanded N100 million to release him but after many rounds of negotiations yesterday (Monday), the sum of N10 million was agreed and his family paid to it to secure his release,” one of the sources told The PUNCH.
The gunmen invaded the estate in the wee hours of Monday and abducted two residents despite being engaged in a gun duel by police officers who arrived at the scene.
FCT Police Command spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed the invasion and claimed the police rescued one of the victims after an intense gun battle with the armed men.
Adeh disclosed at the time that efforts were ongoing to rescue the second victim.
