A sad moment pervaded the Federal High Court of Nigeria on Thursday  May 21 as it lost one of its judicial officers, Justice Mohammed Nasir Yunusa to the cold hands of death.

Justice Mohamed Nasir Yunusa who until his death after a brief illness, was serving at the Kano Judicial division of the Federal High Court.

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Honourable Justice John Terhemba Tsoho OFR, KSS, FCIArb, his brother Judges and the management of the Federal High Court mourn the demise of Justice Yunusa who has been buried in accordance with islamic rites.

The press release  signed: by the
Director of Information, Federal High Court of Nigeria, Catherine Oby Christopher PhD, announcing the death of Justice Yunusa, states that the Federal High Court regrets to announce the passing of Hon. Justice Mohammed Nasir Yunusa of the Kano Judicial Division, who departed this life on 21 May 2026, after a brief illness.

“His Lordship Justice Yunusa passed away at the State Medical Centre, Kano, and has since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

“Hon. Justice M. N. Yunusa was a distinguished jurist who served with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the administration of justice. His immense contributions to the Bench and the legal profession will be fondly remembered and greatly cherished by his colleagues, members of the outer Bar, court staff, and all who had the privilege of working with him.

“The Chief Judge, Judges, Management, and Staff of the Federal High Court extend their heartfelt condolences to his immediate family and pray that Almighty God grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.

Justice Mohamed Nasir Yunusa was born on November 14, 1963 at Gashua, Bade Local Government of Yobe State.

He attended Babuje Primary School, Gashua from 1970 to 1976; Fika Government Secondary School, Potiskum from 1976 to 1981; University of Maiduguri, Nigeria from 1982 to 1987 where he read law and obtained his LL.B (Hons) Common Law.

He was at the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island , Lagos from 1988 to 1989. In 2004 he was at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry and got certificate in Report Writing and Presentation.

From December 2005 to February 2006, he was at the Institute for Security Studies, Abuja; November 3rd to 12th, 2008,he attended a brief course at the Nigerian Institute of Legal Studies in Lagos.

The late jurist attended a national workshop for Judicial Administrators at the National Judicial Institute,  Abuja in July 21st to 25th, 2008.

On June 22, 2009, Mohamed Nasir Yunusa was appointed a judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria.

Late Justice Mohammed Nasir Yunusa was number 18 in the hierarchy of judges and once served at the Federal High Court, Lagos Judicial division.
