I’ve never sexually harassed any woman – Akpabio
By Jeffrey Agbo
Senate President Godswill Akpabio said on Wednesday that he has never sexually harassed any woman following claims made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP/Kogi Central).
After Akpoti-Uduaghan had submitted a sexual harassment petition against him during plenary, he said that his late mother raised him well.
“I will like to state clearly that at no time did I ever attempt any sexual harassment on the said Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan or any other woman for that matter. I and my siblings were raised very well by my late single mother who died in year 2000,” he said.

Akpabio, a two-term former governor of Akwa Ibom, said he has always respected women, adding: “I was even awarded the most gender-friendly governor in Nigeria.”
Earlier, Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Monguno (APC/Borno North) raised Order 40 of the Senate Standing Order, stating that the sexual harassment petition cannot be entertained or referred to the Ethics Committee because Akpoti-Uduaghan and wife of the Senate President Ekaette Akpabio were in court over the matter.
Senate leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC/Ekiti Central) also kicked against the petition being referred to the Ethics Committee. He advised that the senators should go into a closed-door session to address the matter.
But Akpabio countered because of visitors at the gallery who came to witness proceedings.
