Self acclaimed Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, has urged Yoruba traditional rulers to support him to flush out criminals and bandits from the South West region.
He made the call in a statement he signed recently, where he lamented how farmer-herder crisis is fueling insecurity in the region and leading to deaths.
Igboho promised to collaborate with monarchs to put a permanent end to insecurity in the Southwest.
Speaking on the need for the support of the traditional rulers, he said: “I welcome the idea, and assure them that I will do my best to checkmate incidence of insecurity provided I receive the backing of the relevant security agencies, Yoruba monarchs and other stakeholders.
“Insecurity and threats precipitated by banditry, herders/farmers clashes, leading to deaths and massive destruction of farmlands have driven away farmers and agric entrepreneurs from farm settlements in Yorubaland.
“We need to flush out criminal elements, who have occupied our forests using the place as launch pads to jeopardize the peace in our communities, towns, villages and amulets. I am ready to lend my support in this regard.”
TheNiche had earlier reported that Igboho returned to Nigeria on February 17, after leaving the country to join his family in Germany.
Upon his return, he explained that it was his agitation for a Yoruba Nation and confrontation with killer herders that made former President Muhammadu Buhari to send Department of State Services (DSS) personnel after him in 2021.
He went on to say this led to his decision to escape to Benin Republic and eventually Germany.
He, however, announced his intention to continue the battle to secure Yorubaland from invaders.
