Activist and human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has asserted that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is treating Nasir El-Rufai with more leniency than the former governor showed his own critics while in power.
He made the claim on Friday in a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) page, where he described the ex-governor as an “unrepentant tyrant and oppressor”.
According to the Abuja-based lawyer, if El-Rufai were given another opportunity to hold office, he would behave worse than he did during his time as governor.
He noted that while the former minister was the Governor of Kaduna State, he sent police officers from his state to Sokoto State on the eve of Sallah to arrest an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Bello Yabo, for criticising him.

Writing via his verified handle, Adeyanju stated: “El-Rufai is an unrepentant tyrant and oppressor. If given another opportunity to access power, he will do worse than he did in the past.
“Anyone supporting him is a hungry cretin and a desperate, unprincipled politician who wants to grab power at all costs.
“During COVID-19, when Sheikh Bello Yabo, an Islamic cleric, criticised him, El-Rufai waited until the eve of Sallah, then sent police from Kaduna all the way to Sokoto to arrest and detain him.
“The current oppressors of El-Rufai are nicer to him than he was to his critics. El-Rufai deserves the karma he is getting.”
