I was not invited to any concert for 3 years, says Crayon

Crayon said he wept like a baby and doubted his ability to succeed as a musician, after failing to get ‘gigs’ 3 years after signing to  Mavin Records

Fast-rising Nigerian Afropop artiste and songwriter, Charles Chukwu better known as Crayon has shared a moment he struggled in his musical career with fans.

According to the 21-year-old singer,  he went through a period, especially during the first three years he was signed to Don Jazzy’s label, Mavin, without getting to play at a show or music concert.

The ‘Overdose’ corner took to his Twitter page on Monday, August 1, to recount his experience in December 2021, revealing he wept at a point and doubted his ability to succeed as a musician.

Crayon, however, said he got through the trying time through words of encouragement and assurances from his boss, Don Jazzy and others close to him.

He went on to say, after a few years of perseverance, he was able to turn things around and has now lost count of the number of shows he has taken part in.

He wrote, “I remember going to JAZZY’s house crying to him like baba Wetin dey sup why them dey do like say them no dey see me! Haaaa JAZZY sha! The reassurance everytime! Baba go say calm down! No worry I no dey rush you I understand when your time come you go POP! And you go POP crazy!!!!.

“Last year December I was crying a baby like what is happening to me like I’m not talented enough to get gigs abi no be sing too correct, jackpot, sofine, and all those other dope records! But now I’ve lost count of how many shows I have done! I’m grateful.” 

Meanwhile, the Mavin Record’s star recently paid an unscheduled visit to his alma mater, and he got a rousing reception from the pupils of the school.  

Crayon was a special guest at his former school, Treasure Court College, Iba, Lagos state where he had his secondary education. 

The excited students and teachers of the college who came out in large numbers were treated to some of his hit songs, as they sang along with the singer.
