Police have arrested one Fatai Quadri for allegedly assaulting his wife Rukayat at their residence in Illese-Ijebu during a confrontation over her alleged adultery, with him also being accused of keeping a mistress.
The arrest came after the circulation of a viral video on September 15 showing the suspect repeatedly punching and inflicting injuries on his wife.
Ogun Police Command spokesperson Omolola Odutola, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Abeokuta at the weekend.
“The suspect, who was seen inflicting fist blows on the victim, resulting in bodily harm, was promptly apprehended by operatives of the Igbeba Divisional Police Headquarters, Ijebu Ode,” Odutola said.
She explained that preliminary investigation shows that the assault was triggered by allegation of infidelity against the wife.
But further investigation revealed that Quadri allegedly transferred to another woman, the ownership of a 10-room en-suite apartment jointly built with Rukayat, which fuelled the attack.
According to Odutola, the victim is receiving medical treatment while the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court after investigation is concluded.
Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo reiterated zero tolerance for domestic violence, warning that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
He urged members of the public, especially victims of domestic violence, to report all cases promptly, stressing that silence empowers perpetrators while timely reporting ensures protection and justice.
