Husband and wife syndicate arrested by police over allegedly trafficking of 12 children from different villages

Police in Abia have rescued 12 babies trafficked from different villages by an alleged husband and wife syndicate, Sunday and Blessing Emebo.

Abia Police Command spokesperson Maureen Chinaka confirmed that the couple were arrested on May 19 at an illegal motherless babies’ home at their apartment on Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba.

She said the ages of the babies range from six to 14 months, and the arrest and rescue operation was facilitated by intelligence gathered by the police.

The suspects are being interrogated at State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and would soon be arraigned in court, according to Chinaka, who disclosed that the babies have been handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs.

She reiterated the commitment of the police to reducing crime and criminal activities in the state and advised the public to stay security-conscious and ensure no child is left with unfamiliar persons.
