He called Tinubu drug baron, then called him Christlike when the cheque cleared – Mike Arnold asks Senate to reject Omokri’s nomination

A former Mayor of Blanco, Texas in the United States, Mike Arnold, has publicly urged the Senate to reject the ambassadorial nomination of Reno Omokri.

Omokri’s name, along with 31 others, was submitted to the Senate for confirmation on Saturday. The list includes notable figures such as former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu, former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, and Senator representing Ondo North Jimoh Ibrahim, among others.

The push for Omokri’s rejection stems from falling out between the two former friends. Their rift centered on the claim of genocide against Christians in Nigeria.

Omokri has consistently insisted that no such genocide is occurring, and he even commissioned Arnold to conduct an independent verification of the claim. However, Arnold publicly contradicted Omokri, asserting in his final report that there is indeed a genocide targeting Christians.

In a post on his X handle, Arnold urged the Senate to reject Omokri’s nomination on that ground and many others.

Part of his post reads: “To the Nigerian Senate. Regarding the ambassadorial nomination of Californian Reno Omokri: I’ve seen this man up close. He is a danger to your country.

“He called Tinubu a drug baron, then called him Christlike the moment the cheque cleared.

“He screamed “Christian genocide” under Buhari, then called it a hoax under Tinubu. He lies calm, cool, and constantly. Pathological. This is no diplomat.”
