Gunmen in Makurdi have abducted a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officer named Simon Agbo with a demand for N20 million for his release.
Family sources said the incident occurred at about 7.5pm on Sunday while Agbo was outside his home with two neighbours.
The gunmen stormed the area opposite NKST Church, Kuan behind Modern Market, and fired several shots into the air to scare away residents before grabbing the victim at gunpoint.
Agbo, who was redeployed to Benue Command from Kwara in February, was whisked to unknown destination by his abductors.
Vigilante groups and youths in the community have launched a search to locate and rescue the victim but the criminals escaped with him, sources told Daily Post.
Agbo’s younger brother recounted that a neighbour had persistently urged Agbo to return home that evening, raising suspicions.
“He kept calling, insisting my brother come home or share his location. They were outside talking when the attackers struck, targeting only my brother,” the man said.
The neighbour has been arrested and is in police custody pending further investigation.
The abductors have contacted the family demanding N20 million for Agbo’s release, according to sources.
