Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has insisted that he will shake hands with Arsenal boss and fellow Spanish tactician Mikel Arteta, should the latter emerge victorious on Sunday.

He made this known ahead of the pivotal league tie between second-placed Manchester City and Premier League leaders Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola jokingly added, however, that he would pray for the Gunners to lose their subsequent five league matches if he and his team fail to win the encounter.

Addressing journalists during his press briefing, he said: “If we lose, I will shake hands with Mikel.

“And I will pray they lose the next five games so we can be champions, but I think it’s not going to happen.

“So, we have to try to win our game on Sunday.”

Arsenal currently hold a six-point lead at the top of the table; a win over Man City would increase that gap to nine points with only five games remaining.

However, a victory for the Citizens would bring them within three points of the North London outfit, with a game still in hand.
