The Argentine forward decided to hang up his boots on Wednesday, December 15, on the advice of his team doctor, after a serious health scare, bringing to an end his illustrious 18-year career

He tearfully announced he is retiring from the beautiful game due to heart issues, in a press conference at Camp Nou, after an excellent career with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga, Man City in Premier League, and his national team, Argentina.

The 33-year-old won several titles in the process, from the Europa League to the Premier League, the FA Cup to the Copa América, and scoring hundreds of goals along the way.

“ Maradona conquered Italy, Messi did it in Spain and Aguero has done it in England, his numbers speak for themselves.”

Also speaking about the news of Aguero’s forced retirement from football, Jurgen Klopp, whose team Liveroool played against the prolific striker said:

“ First and foremost, I really feel for the boy. I’m sure he is in shock. The impact he had on the Premier League, on football was incredible.

“The goals he scored, the importance of the goals he scored. Great player. One of the best I ever faced.”

Meanwhile his compatriot, Lionel Messi, in an emotional message penned down on Wednesday on his Instagram page, said  he was going to miss his dear friend.

He wrkte: “Practically a whole career together. We’ve had some great moments and others that weren’t so great, but all of them have made us grow closer and become better friends. And we’re going to continue spending them together off the pitch,”

“With the great joy of lifting the Copa America just a little while ago, with all the achievements you obtained in England…. And the truth is that now it hurts a lot to see how you have to stop doing what you love the most because of what happened to you.

“I’m sure you will continue to be happy because you are a person who radiates happiness and those of us who love you will be there for you. Now a new stage of your life is beginning and I am convinced that you will enjoy it with a smile on your face and with all the enthusiasm that you put into everything.

” All the best in this new stage! I love you very much my friend, I’m going to miss being with you on the pitch and when we meet up with the national team.”

Aguero moved to Camp Nou on a free transfer in the summer following his departure from Manchester City, having spent the previous 10 years of his career at the Etihad Stadium.

A calf injury saw him miss the start of the season at Barca, and he was only able to make five appearances for the La Liga club before his retirement.
