Govt trains OVC in Bauchi

Bauchi State Governor, Abdullahi Mohammed, has assured that his administration would enable the orphans and vulnerable children in the state to acquire skills.

He made the promise during the commissioning of Ambassador Mohammed Chadi Abubakar Ophans and Vulnerable Children Vocational College Bauchi (BASOVCA) and the special Education Centre Intervention Projects  in Bauchi.

The governor said that the children were special people that need extra care and sense of belonging.

According to him, “My ambition is to provide equal education opportunity to all Orphans and Vulnerable children. They need skills to fend for themselves in the state.”

He added that the project justified the increase and an allocation on the budget to education sector.

Also, the Executive Chairman, BASOVCA, Alhaji Ibrahim Hali Abdullahi, said that the college was conceived to give the vulnerable child an opportunity to acquire basic education and to achieve fulfillment in life without any barrier.

He said that everything in the college was free ranging from uniforms, books, feeding and accommodation.

According to him,  the college has operational departments including electrical/electronics, automobile, building, welding and fabrication, knitting and garments, carpentry and joinetery, computer installations and hardware repairs as well as conventional subjects.

He said, “We are appealing for your order to direct total compliance with the law establishing BASOVCA which vested powers on the Accountant General of the state as it relates to one percent to two percent contribution of civil servants and public servants deducting from basic salaries of same.

“These remittance are the stre‎ngh of BASOVCA”.

At the event, Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwan  Sulaiman Adamu, said that “it pleased the Almighty Allah to bring the development to our door step,” stressing that the people of Bauchi would soon demonstrate their appreciation in due course.

He lamented that the growing number of single mothers ‎and orphans is at alarming and called on the other philanthropist and non-governmental organisations to invest in the children.

He urged parents not to abandon their responsibilities as father but rather embark on training and proper upbringing of their children.

He further tasked government to encourage others and reduce over-depending on foreign aide.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Caretaker Committee Chairman of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area in Bauchi State‎, Munnir Musa Yisin, has resigned his appointment.

Yisin disclosed this in a letter dated March 15, 2016, addressed to Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar.

He stated in the letter that his decision to resign was personal and did not elaborate.

He wrote: “With due respect Your Excellency, the above subject matter is hereby referred. While I want to categorically state that my decision to quit this position is personal.

“It is my pleasure to use this medium to appreciate the opportunity given to me by your excellency to serve my Local Government Area which I did to the best of my ability from the day of my appointment to date.

“Finally, may Almighty Allah see you through this great endeavour. Ameen.”
