Mainoo has not play for Amorim’s side in their first two Premier League games this season.

The 20-year-old was an unused substitute as Mason Mount, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes featured ahead of him against Fulham on Sunday .

Amorim then opted to bring Manuel Uagrte on from the bench against the London club head of the England international.

Reacting to the decision, Neville asserted that Mainoo is fourth choice in Amorim’s pecking order of midfielders at the Premier League outfit.

He went on to urge Man United to sign a new midfielder in the final week of the summer transfer window.

He said, “I think United have to do a piece of business in central midfield.

“I would have like to have thought Kobbie Mainoo could step up and be that person. But it is quite clear at this moment in time, [Ruben] Amorim is not having him.

“He starts with Bruno [Fernandes] and Casemiro, then he puts Mason Mount back in there and then brings Manuel Ugarte on ahead of him which tells us he [Mainoo] is fourth choice.

“That means they are going to have to get something sorted because it is a problem.”.
