FTAN backs indigenous arts festival, targets cultural tourism boost in Delta

The Delta State chapter of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) has endorsed the third edition of the Indigenous Arts Festival, scheduled to hold in Asaba from September 25 to 28, 2026.
The four-day festival, which will be hosted at the Indigenous Cultural Centre (ICC) within the Delta State Film Village, is expected to bring together artists, tourists, cultural enthusiasts and other stakeholders to celebrate Nigeria’s indigenous heritage.
FTAN Delta State Coordinator, Engr. Chibuikem Dialla said in a letter endorsing the festival that the event could serve as a catalyst for the growth of hospitality, eco-tourism, and creative enterprises in the state.
He said the festival’s ability to attract visitors from within and outside Nigeria would provide opportunities for businesses in the hospitality and tourism sectors while promoting Asaba as a destination for cultural tourism.
The partnership between FTAN and the festival organisers is expected to strengthen collaboration between tourism practitioners and stakeholders involved in cultural preservation and community-based creative initiatives.
The 2026 edition will feature traditional music and dance, fireside storytelling, indigenous film screenings, and exhibitions of arts and crafts.
The programme will also include workshops on sustainable living, green practices, and traditional arts and crafts, reflecting the environmental focus of the Indigenous Cultural Centre.
Organisers said FTAN’s endorsement was expected to boost participation and institutional support for the festival while further raising the profile of Asaba as a destination for cultural and eco-tourism.
The festival is centred on the preservation of indigenous heritage, creative expression and environmental sustainability, with organisers positioning it as a platform for showcasing traditional knowledge and supporting local creative enterprise.
