Flights resume after aviation unions suspend Air Peace picketing
Flights have resumed after early-morning picketing by aviation unions who claimed they were fighting over debts allegedly owed by Air Peace to the NCAA.
The irate unions also claimed they were fighting for the unionisation of Air Peace workers, even though the latter said they were not interested in being unionised.
Reports from the airlines, including United Nigeria, which embarked on a solidarity shutdown with Air Peace, indicated that the airlines are mapping out strategies to clear the backlog and restore normalcy.
Meanwhile, the NCAA, which reports indicate engineered the strike, has appealed to the unions to sheath their swords and allow negotiations to resume.
The NCAA remained silent when the unions threatened to go on strike and after the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) issued a statement warning the unions not to disrupt their services, as they had no issues with them or their workers.
Feelers from the airlines indicate that a large chunk of the revenue made by them goes to the NCAA, leaving little profit margin for the airlines. Industry watchers say this has been responsible for the high rate of mortality of airlines in the country.
