Fashola again absent at polling unit for Lagos LG elections

Former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), was once again noticeably absent from his designated polling unit on Saturday during the local government chairmanship and councillorship elections.

Fashola, who was anticipated to vote alongside his wife, Abimbola Fashola, did not show up at the polling unit throughout the voting hours, which ran from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This marks another instance of his nonappearance, as he was similarly absent during the 2021 council elections.

Journalists who had positioned themselves at the location from 8:19 a.m., when voting began, waited in vain for the former Minister of Power, Works and Housing to arrive. Some reporters left after hours of waiting, while others remained until the polls closed, hoping he might eventually show up.

Voting commenced at Unit 002 located at State Junior Grammar School (Special), Itolo Street, Eric Moore, Surulere, shortly after electoral officers from INEC arrived and set up at 8:19 a.m.

Despite expectations, the unit witnessed a low turnout, with only 213 voters participating out of 1,355 registered at the location where Fashola was expected to vote.
