The quest by former Senate President, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, to clinch the presidential ticket of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will get a major boost today, Thursday, March 24, as his supporters have concluded plans to buy the expression of interest and nomination forms for him.

TheNiche reliably gathered that the form thereafter will be presented to him in Abuja by the representatives of the various groups.

The PDP had announced on Wednesday, March 16, that it will commence the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms for all categories of positions ahead of the 2023 elections from Thursday, March 17.

The opposition party made the announcement at the end of its 95th National Executive Committee meeting held on March 16 at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

A statement by Debo Ologunagba, national publicity secretary of the party, said they agreed among other things to discount by 50 per cent the cost of its expression of interest and nomination forms to young people, not more than 30 years.

The party also fixed its expression of interest form for presidential aspirants at N5 million and nomination form at N35 million.

There are well over 100 support groups backing Anyim;s “Greater Nigeria 2023” project, which he unveiled during his 61st birthday anniversary in Abuja on February 19.

The support groups, who the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) designated the Greater Nigeria Project Partners were also recognised that day.

Speaking to TheNiche on Wednesday night, chairman of one of the groups, who craved anonymity said, “We have concluded plans to buy the PDP nomination forms for our principal, Senator Anyim.

“This is putting our money where our mouth is. We are partners in the Greater Nigeria 2023 Project. In fact, we are the driving force of that project.

“If we believe that Anyim is the man to take us to the promised land as indeed we do believe, then it behoves us to make that project, the onerous task of rescuing Nigeria feasible.

“We will make a loud statement with the buying of the forms and handing them over to Senator Anyim on Thursday. The partnership for the good of Nigeria has just begun.”

Anyim, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declared his interest in the race last year.

And he was unequivocal that he would run whether the PDP zones its presidential ticket to the Southeast or not.
