Former Super Eagles forward Michael Eneramo has passed away after collapsing while playing football.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the former international’s death on Friday via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Eneramo reportedly collapsed and died during a local friendly match on a pitch in Ungwan Yelwa, Kaduna. Despite all efforts to revive the 40-year-old, he was tragically pronounced dead.
Announcing the passing of the striker, who scored three goals in 10 appearances for Nigeria, the Super Eagles’ official handle posted: “Rest in peace, Michael.”
Expressing his sadness, NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, currently in Cairo, Egypt, said: “This is devastating. I am short of words at this moment. I can only pray that God grants him eternal rest and provides his loved ones and the Nigerian football family the fortitude to bear this loss.”

Born in Kaduna in 1985, Eneramo began his professional career with Lobi Stars of Makurdi. He later played in Tunisia and Turkey before retiring in 2018.
He spent the majority of his career in Turkey, representing clubs such as Sivasspor, Beşiktaş, Karabükspor, İstanbul Başakşehir, and Manisaspor.
Eneramo made his debut for Nigeria against Jamaica in a friendly match in London on 11 February 2009, which ended goalless. He scored his first international goal against the Republic of Ireland in a 1-1 draw in London on 29 May 2009.
Crucially, Eneramo scored one of the most vital goals in Nigeria’s 2010 World Cup qualification campaign, netting a late equaliser as the Eagles secured a 2-2 draw at home against Tunisia.
