Eto’o assures Morocco of Africa’s support after eliminating Portugal

Eto’o, whose country has since been eliminated from the World Cup, described Morocco’s win over Portugal as ‘incredible’

The president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o has hailed Morocco after edging out Portugal in the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Saturday evening.

Eto’o, whose country, Cameroon, have since been eliminated from the Mundial, described Morocco’s win over Portugal as ‘incredible’.

The former Chelsea and Barcelona striker also said that the whole of Africa would be supporting Morocco to win the World Cup in Qatar this year.

Reacting after the Atlas Lions beat European Giant, Portugal, Eto’o, in a post via his Twitter handle, said, “Incredible! Morocco is the first ever African country to make it to the semifinals.

“The entire continent is rooting for you.”

Morocco became the first African nation to qualify for the semi-finals of a World Cup after beating Portugal by a lone goal in a game played at the Al Thumama Stadium, Doha on Saturday afternoon.

The Atlas Lions scored the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute when Youssef En-Nesyri leaped highest to beat goalkeeper Diogo Costa to the ball and headed it home after an assist from Yahia Attiyat Allah.

With the win, the North African side will now play the winner of the quarter-final game between France and England in the semi-final on Wednesday.
