Paris Saint-Germain manager, Luis Enrique, has disclosed that his compatriot and Manchester City head coach, Pep Guardiola, is his “role model”.

He made this known recently during an interview with Movistar Plus, whilst reacting to news of Guardiola’s upcoming departure from the Etihad.

Guardiola joined Manchester City from Bayern Munich in 2016 and has since won six English Premier League (EPL) titles, including four successive triumphs between 2021 and 2024.

This accomplishment made the Spanish tactician the first manager in the history of the English top flight to achieve such a feat.

Describing his countryman, Enrique called him “the best manager of all time”, adding that he finds it hard to believe he is leaving the Cityzens.

He also confirmed that Guardiola has a long-standing desire to manage at the international level; however, he questioned whether he would ever consider taking charge of the Italian national team.

“I don’t believe Pep Guardiola is leaving. I don’t believe it and I don’t want to believe it, because I would like him to stay for many more years,” Enrique said.

He added: “When I was the national team manager, he used to ask me about the job. He has always had that desire to coach a national team. I don’t think he will take over Italy, but you can’t rule it out either.

“I would like to see Pep at the highest level for many years because he is a role model for me. He is the best manager of all time.”
