EFCC officer slumps, dies in Lagos; 2 weeks after one shot dead by Yahoo boy

An official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the Lagos Division has reportedly slumped and died, two weeks after another was shot and killed by a suspected Yahoo boy in Onitsha, Anambra.

A video that began circulating online on Monday shows that the latest death victim, who was not in uniform, slumped and died in an undisclosed part of Lagos on Sunday, an incident confirmed by the EFCC.

The video shows his lifeless body surrounded by sympathisers, including police officers who coordinated a search of his bag, according to The PUNCH.

It was discovered through his identity card that he was an officer of the EFCC.

“He works with EFCC. His ID card is with him,” a voice said in the video.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed that “Yes, the man is our officer. His death is being investigated. The incident happened on Sunday.”

On January 15, a suspected Yahoo boy, Joshua Ikechukwu, shot and killed EFCC Assistant Superintendent Aminu Salisu during a raid in Onitsha.

EFCC personnel who travelled down from the zonal headquarters in Enugu were said to be on a mission to apprehend a group of suspected cyber criminals when they were ambushed.

Oyewale condemned negative narratives about the officer’s killing and stressed that the Commission would ensure justice is served.
