There is virtually no premises from Toyin Roundabout through Allen Avenue in Ikeja area that does not have one corporate office or another. Many of these buildings employ local security guards who get small rooms at the gate to rest.
Most of these guards rake in additional income by selling essential commodities from their small space. So, while discharging their security duty, they are also meeting the needs of employers who are too busy to go out to get some basic things like beverages.
However, one can authoritatively say that the security guards triple their source of income at night. At the close of work, when they are supposed to work to earn their pay, they do more than that.
Many of them turn the gate house and some other parts of the premises to brothels for short time sexual gratification by the ‘ladies of the night’. Whether they too taste the pudding is story for another day, but they collect as much as N500 from men who are introduced to the security guards by the ladies. After collection, they provide mats or benches and turn a blind eye to whatever is going on, while waiting for the next client.
This seems to be a very lucrative business because what they get at night is more than what their employees pay them.
This calls for an extra eye on those guards around Toyin Roundabout.
