CHAN 2024: Senegal coach, Diallo says defending champions ‘ll face Nigeria with respect, humility

Senegal head coach, Souleymane Diallo has said his team will approach Tuesday’s clash against Nigeria’s Home-based Super Eagles with “humility, and respect”.

He made this known during his press briefing ahead of the eagerly anticipated Group D clash.

Senegal will begin the defence of their title against Eric Chelle’s side at the Amman Stadium, Zanzibar on Tuesday (today).

Nigeria struggled in their friendlies in the build up to the competition, drawing their last two preparatory games against hosts, Zanzibar.

Speaking ahead of the West Africans derby, Diallo affirmed that the holders are in the competition to defend their title. 

He, however, added that his team’s first objective in the tournament is to qualify from the group.

“We are not here to defend the trophy in our keeping, we came to try to win another trophy, but for that we have to set the first objective which is qualifying from the group.” Diallo said.

Group D’s remaining two teams, Sudan, and Congo Brazzaville will tackle each other in the second group game.
