English pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said that despite the ‘bad result’ his former club suffered against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) round of 16 first leg in Turkey, they remain favourites to progress to the quarter-final stage.
The Reds legend made the bold prediction during his latest appearance on CBS Sports.
Galatasaray defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the Champions League first-leg tie on Tuesday at the Rams Park Stadium.
The Turkish Süper Lig giants will face the Premier League side in the return leg next week at Anfield.
Speaking after the encounter, Carragher assured Liverpool supporters that Arne Slot’s side will beat Galatasaray in the return leg and qualify for the next stage of the competition.

While analysing the first leg, the ex-England international said: “This was bad in the end for Liverpool.
“Bad result, really poor in the second half as well. The first half started well, but I don’t think Galatasaray had a great team. It is still a team Liverpool should beat and should go through.
“So, I am 98 per cent sure Liverpool will go through to the quarter-final.”
Meanwhile, Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has warned Liverpool not to be too confident ahead of the second leg.
The Nigerian forward, who provided the assist for the only goal of the match, hailed the unity between the players and the fans after edging past Slot’s men.
“We are a family together with the Galatasaray fans. We did a very good job today,” Osimhen said.
He added: “I think we can hurt Liverpool in the second leg. We have done a good job so far.”
