Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has predicted that the Northwest of the country will likely determine who wins the 2027 presidential election, noting that President Tinubu is clearly the favourite in the region.
He made this known on Thursday in a post shared on his official X page while analysing the possible outcome of the upcoming presidential election.
President Tinubu will be seeking a second term in 2027, with his main challengers being the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) counterpart, Peter Obi.
While analysing the poll, Ahmad argued that the region will be the most consequential for the candidates because it carries enormous electoral weight, with 23.8 million registered voters.
He said, “The Northwest, Nigeria’s largest geopolitical zone, will be the most consequential region in the 2027 presidential election.
“With more than 23.8 million registered voters recorded by INEC, our region carries enormous electoral weight.”
Ahmad, however, added that the Northwest is poised to deliver for the incumbent president and ensure his re-election.
“From my observation, the region remains a major centre of support for President Bola Tinubu, with supporters across the seven states increasingly organising and mobilising ahead of the election,” he added.
