Bucknor-Akerele calls for cancellation of Lagos LG election

Bucknor-Akerele accused LASIEC officials of deliberately disenfranchising voters, adding that there were  disruptions at some polling centres.

Former Lagos State Deputy Governor,  Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has called for the immediate cancellation of the ongoing local government election in Lagos State.

The one time federal lawmaker made the call on Saturday morning while speaking with some reporters.

According to 86-year-old politician, there are widespread irregularities in the election process.

She also accused the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) of attempting to manipulate the process in favour of a particular political party.

“I am calling for the cancellation of this election because there is a deliberate and coordinated effort to rig it in favour of one party.” Bucknor-Akerele said. 

She further noted that several eligible voters, including herself, were unable to locate their names on the voter register at their respective polling units.

“When you get to your unit, they say they already have a list of names. I visited my polling unit, and my name was not on the list,” she added.

The former deputy governor went on to accuse election officials of deliberately disenfranchising voters, adding that
there were disruptions at some polling centres.
