Argentina failed to defend their title after losing 1-0 against European champions Spain in the final of the 2026 World Cup played at the MetLife Stadium.
La Roja dominated the first half but created few chances, while Lionel Scaloni’s side had no shots on target.
Argentina defender Lisandro Martínez was taken off in the 44th minute and was replaced by Nicolás Otamendi after picking up an injury.
During the break, Madonna, Shakira, Burna Boy, Justin Bieber, and other singers starred in a historic half-time show.

Spain continued from where they left off in the first half, dominating proceedings, but were still unable to find the back of the net.
Argentina then made things difficult for themselves when Enzo Fernández was sent off after picking up a second yellow card for a wild challenge on Pau Cubarsí.
Spain thought they had taken the lead in the first half of extra time after Nico Williams put the ball in the back of the net, but it was ruled out for a foul on Emi Martínez.
They, however, got the breakthrough when Pedro Porro sent the ball to the back post and Nico Williams kept it alive, nodding it down into space for Ferran Torres to lash into the roof of the net.
