Rohr’s lackluster performance has almost cost him his job as Super Eagles Manager, especially after the 1-1 draw with less fanciful Cape Verde

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has survived being sacked after an initial report indicated that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had fired him.

According to OwnGoalNigeria, the decision to sack the Franco-German gaffer was taken after a company associated with the senior national team agreed to pay the termination clause in the contract of the coach.

But the NFF has clariid that Rohr has not been sacked as coach of Super Eagles.

TheNiche understands that speculation in the local media claiming that Gernot Rohr has been relieved of his duties as Super Eagles coach is not true.

The Franco-German football tactician has come under intense scrutiny from the media and fans for the national team’s unconvincing performances during the group stage of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles could only pick up four points from a maximum nine at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos and two of their away victories came at neutral venue.

Nigeria struggled to beat Liberia in both matches, needing two first half goals in Lagos and two penalties at away, and only an unfortunate own goal in the closing minutes helped them secure three points in the away fixture at Cape Verde.

Media Officer of the Nigeria Football Federation Ademola Olajire has informed TheNiche via telephone conversation, that Rohr is still in the saddle and no meeting has been held to decide his fate.

Olajire disclosed that no statement has been issued from the Nigeria football federation.

“I’m not aware of the sack, before a decision could be taken, there will be a meeting of the NFF board and a release issued to the public,” Olajire stated.

An online platform has reported it as an exclusive of the Franco-German tactician been sacked as Super Eagles coach in wake of the lacklustre performance of the national team in the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers , especially last group game against Blue Sharks of Cape Verde on Tuesday.

The former Burkina Faso manager signed a two-year contract extension in 2020, with some conditions attached to his new deal.

He was given the objective of winning next year’s AFCON and leading the team to the World cup.
