At least 50 people were killed when bomb exploded in a densely populated area In Nyaya, near Abuja on Monday morning. According to an eyewitness, an improvised explosive device in a luxury bus belonging to the Federal Capital Territory exploded making a huge sound which made people run in different directions for safety.
Most of the other vehicles around the premises were set ablaze as a result of the explosion. No details of the casualties were immediately available, but men of the Federal Fire Service were seen battling to contain the situation.
An eyewitness, John Okoye, who said he lives near the bomb blast site lamented, “it is a horrible site I threw up when I saw the carnage. Those who did this are not human beings. It was only one bomb that went off but the impact is huge I think it is the biggest bomb they ever used.”
Many relations of the victims were seen at the Maitama District Hospital on 61, Aguiyi Ironsi Street, where some of the victims were rushed to. They crowded the gate and called on God to punish whoever was behind the attack.
Nobody had claimed responsibility as at the time of filing this report.
Those who had come to identify their relations were not allowed to enter the hospital, even as ambulances were seen driving in and out of the facility.
Emergency units were set up outside where some of the victims were attended to.

Some of the victims were also taken to Asokoro General Hospital.
Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed sadness over the loss of lives in the Nyaya bombing.
According to Presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, Jonathan “has ordered heightened security in Abuja.”
The President also “extends his heartfelt condolences to bereaved families” while he has directed “the medical services to do their best to save lives of those injured in the Nyaya bombing.”
