Nigerian rapper and singer Emeka Akumefule, better known as Blaqbonez, has revealed why he rejected a reported one-million-dollar deal from Mavin Records.

He justified the decision late on Thursday via a short post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

According to Blaqbonez, one of the major reasons he declined the offer was because he does not enjoy being highly active on social media or constantly engaging fans online.

He went on to suggest that such a trait is unlikely to align with the promotional demands of a major record label.

Writing on his verified handle, he said: “Need to get this off my chest before chanel drops, the reason I didn’t sign to mavin when they were begging me with a million dollars is cos i don’t really like posting, I prefer 1 tweet per year than engaging my fans, I’m too big for that, I’m mysterious.”

Blaqbonez’s breakthrough and launch into African hip-hop stardom was primarily initiated by his 2018 EP, Bad Boy Blaq.

The project, released under Chocolate City’s imprint 100 Crowns, included the hit track “Mamiwota” featuring Oxlade, which catapulted his career and established his dedicated fanbase.
