Blackout as national grid collapses

By Jeffrey Agbo

Nigeria’s national electricity grid suffered another collapse on Wednesday, plunging the country into near total blackout.

Data showed that power generation nosedived from 2,917.83 megawatts (MW) to just 1.5 MW between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Confirming the development, the Nigeria National Grid, via its official X handle, announced: “System restoration is in progress.”

In a follow-up update, the account noted that all distribution companies (DisCos) across the country, except Ibadan DisCo, had seen their load allocations crash to zero megawatt.

At the time of this report, none of the DisCos had issued a statement regarding the incident.
