Bella Shmurda defines music as ‘warfare’

Nigerian singer and songwriter Abiola Ahmed Akinbiyi, better known as Bella Shmurda, has stated that beyond entertainment, music is “warfare”.

The 30-year-old artist shared these insights during a recent appearance in the For Bunmi documentary.

According to the ‘Cash App’ crooner, music also serves as a vital tool for societal advancement.

Shmurda further explained that music acts as a vehicle for progress and an instrument of goodwill.

He added that it helps people maintain their sanity and fosters a positive state of mind, allowing them to “dance away their sorrow,” feel alive, and remain self-conscious.

“Music is warfare. Music is a tool for society. Music is a tool of progress. Music is an instrument of goodwill. Music is a tool to keep people sane, to put them in the right state of mind, to make them dance away their sorrow, and to make them feel alive and self-conscious,” he said.

Bella Shmurda also noted that becoming a father has profoundly influenced his creative direction.

He explained that he is now more intentional regarding the themes of his songs, as he wants his children to be proud of his legacy when they grow up.
