Hardawa, who served as INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba and Nasarawa States, died on Tuesday in Abuja, after a brief illness.

The Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa, has passed away.
His death was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement issued by Mukhtar Gidado, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Bala Mohammed.
According to the statement, Hardawa, who served as Resident Electoral Commissioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in both Taraba and Nasarawa States, died on Tuesday, July 29, in Abuja, after a brief illness.

Gidado described the late BASIEC chairman as a “distinguished statesman, an accomplished public servant, and a patriotic Nigerian,” who left a legacy of integrity and fairness throughout his career.
He further noted that Hardawa was a man of “wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership,” whose commitment to credible electoral processes helped strengthen democratic governance at the grassroots.
The statement disclosed that the funeral prayer (Janazah) will be held today, Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi by 5:00 p.m.
Governor Mohammed extended condolences to the deceased’s immediate family, the BASIEC team, friends, associates, and the people of Hardawa and Misau Emirate Councils.
