Atiku, Obi, Tinubu, Kwankwaso, condole Davido and Chioma over death of son, Ifeanyi

Frontline contenders for the presidency in next year’s election have sent their condolence to David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and his girlfriend, Chioma Rowland, over the death of their son, Ifeanyi. 

The three-year-old Ifeanyi died yesterday after drowning in his father’s swimming pool. The parents were at the time  on a short trip to Ibadan and left him in the care of domestic staff.

The police in Lagos have confirmed the death of the baby and announced that eight domestic staff have been taken into custody for questioning. 

The sad event has elicited reactions from Nigerians, including the  leading contenders in the 2023 presidential election.

On their Twitter pages, they expressed their condolences. 

The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, said: “I send my sincere condolences to Davido and Chioma, over the death of their son Ifeanyi. I cannot begin to imagine the pains they are going through at the moment. May God grant them healing, strength and comfort in this trying time. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.”

Reactions trail death of Ifeanyi, son of Davido, Chioma

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar said: “My thoughts and prayers are with Davido and Chioma and the Adeleke family at this time. I pray for God to strengthen and comfort them.”

For the All Progressives Congress (APC) standard bearer, Bola Tinubu, the death was shocking. He said: “Oluremi and I send our heartfelt and deepest condolences to David, Chioma, and the entire Adeleke family over the tragic loss of their son, Ifeanyi. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. May the Lord grant them the fortitude and strength to deal with this painful tragedy.”

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, also said: “My heart and prayers go to David Adeleke @davido and Chioma, in this very trying time. May God guide and keep you through this tragic period.”

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu also mourned with the couple. He said: “Death leaves a heartache no words can heal and today, I express my deepest condolences to David and Chioma, over the death of their son. Ifeanyi was loved and his smile made the world smile. I pray that God grants you strength even as my thoughts and prayers are with you.”
