Asaba 2018: ‘LOC Will assist AFN package Team Nigeria’

The Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Africa Senior Athletics Championship, tagged, “Asaba 2018,” Chief Solomon Ogba, has offered to assist the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) to enable it make impact in the championship.
Speaking recently in Lagos, Ogba insisted that although, the LOC was not set up to package Team Nigeria for the mundial, he assured that assistance would be given to the federation where necessary.
In recent times, the dearth of talented athletes expected to do Nigeria proud at the championships remains doubtful, the LOC boss assured he would personally see what could be done to assist since he is also a serving board member.
The immediate past AFN boss also announced the completion of various projects for major events in the stadium meant for the championship, while concluding that about 80 per cent of projects at the stadium are in various stages of completion.
Let me assure you that we are up to speed at completing the projects on record time. Asaba 2018 championship would be glamorous and memorable. By April 1st. 2018 the media accreditation starts online, this also include other activities connected to the Championships”
Ogba also hinted that security, transportation of guests, media and spectators to the venue would be hitch free as enough measures have been put in place to address any ugly situation.
The LOC chairman also emphasised on the need to create enough awareness for the Championship such that countries coming to Nigeria would be assured that things are in place to welcome them.
We have to create some noise to make our guests feel relaxed and welcomed, we are taking the awareness to market places, schools, hotels and other public places.
Ogba didn’t however say how much was in the kitty for the championships, he assured that funds would not be a problem hinging his optimism on Delta State government  and sponsors  backing and assurances.
