Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has stated that he and his players reached a milestone, boasting: “We’ve done something never done in our history.”
He made this known on Wednesday during his post-match interview following Arsenal’s goalless draw with Sporting in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League (UCL).
Arteta watched as the Gunners played out a 0–0 draw against Sporting CP at the Emirates Stadium, a result that saw them qualify for the semi-final stage of the European competition.
Arteta’s side progressed to the next stage of the tournament with a 1–0 aggregate win, having won the first leg in Portugal.

Speaking after the encounter in North London, Arteta expressed his gratitude to his squad.
He said: “My message was gratitude to [the players]. I know the effort and the commitment that they put in.
“There was a lot of work behind it, and we’ve done something that has never been done in the history of our club. We had to do it in a special way, missing a lot of important players, so big credit to them for that.”
Arsenal will now face Atlético Madrid in the last four later this month, having also reached this stage of the competition last season.
