APGA’s Azikiwe, Nwachukwu win Onitsha North 1, Anambra South Senatorial by-elections

Azikiwe pooled 7,774 votes to defeat ADC’s Azuka, who garnered 1,909 votes.

The candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Mimi Azikiwe, has been declared the winner of the just concluded Onitsha North Constituency 1 by-election.

This was announced on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer (RO), Professor Ibiam Ekpe, Azikiwe.

According to him, Azikiwe pooled 7,774 votes to defeat the candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) and wife of the former occupant of the seat, Mrs Justina Azuka, who garnered 1,909 votes.

The seat in the State House of Assembly
became vacant after Justice Azuka, who was a member of the Labour Party was killed by the daredevil kidnappers.

Ekpe, who is a lecturer in the Department of Soil Science and Technology, Federal University of Technology (FUTO), Owerri, said that the flag bearers of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr Ezennia Chuka Ojekwe and that of Young Progressive Party (YPP), Ms Njideka Ndiwe came third and fourth after getting 1,371 and 655 votes respectively.

He also commended the contestants for their peaceful conduct and voters for turning out en-masse to exercise their franchise.

INEC also declared Emmanuel Nwachukwu of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) winner of Anambra South Senatorial by-election.

He polled 90,408 votes to defeat Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who scored 19,812 votes and Donald Amamgbo of African Democratic Congress (ADC) that got 2,889 votes
