Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has been asked to honour his earlier promise and quit the upcoming 2027 presidential race.

The challenge was thrown at the former Anambra State governor on Friday night in a statement issued by the spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Dele Alake.

According to the council, Obi ought to step aside from the presidential race given that the Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration was able to link financial liabilities to his tenure as governor of Anambra State.

Alake, while urging the NDC chieftain to keep to his word, argued that despite his initial denial, official financial records of the state established the liabilities.

The statement further criticised Obi over his recent interview with the BBC, during which he maintained that he won the 2023 presidential election but acknowledged that he had no evidence to support the claim.

“Obi should present verifiable evidence to support his claim of winning the 2023 presidential election, especially when INEC’s official results placed him third,” Alake said.

The APC campaign council maintained that the outcome of the 2023 presidential election had been settled through the legal process, noting that President Bola Tinubu’s victory was upheld by the Presidential Election Petition Court and the Supreme Court.

Alake concluded by adding that Tinubu is focused on implementing his administration’s economic, educational, and infrastructure policies rather than engaging in arguments over the previous election.
