APC fires back at Gov. Mutfwang, says ‘Identify those pressuring you to dump PDP’

APC argued that if Mutfwang had performed well, he would not be discussing defection or political alignment.

The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied a claim by Governor Caleb Mutfwang that it wooed him to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join its fold.

Mutfwang had, while speaking at a recent event held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Jos, alleged that some APC chieftains are pressuring him to join the ruling party at the federal level.

He, however, maintained that he rebuffed them, saying only divine direction and the will of the people could make him take such a decision.

He said, “It is true that they have been putting pressure on me.

“But I told them that only two people can authorize me to change my party — one is the God of heaven, and the other is you, the people.”

Reacting to the allegation during an interview with reporters on Monday, Plateau State APC’s acting publicity secretary, Shittu Bamaiyi, dismissed the claim as “self-denial.”

He went on to say the governor was only attempting to divert attention from his administration’s failings.

He added that if Mutfwang had performed to the satisfaction of Plateau residents, there would be no need for discussions about defection or political alignment.

Bamaiyi continued, “If he truly meant well for his supporters and the state, he should have courageously named those pressuring him and explained why.

“Whatever the case, it is a big minus for a sitting governor when the opposition openly objects to his joining its ranks, even when that party’s goal is to win future elections.”
