A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has said the call by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for a probe into the circumstances surrounding the abduction of pupils and teachers in his state was “totally uncalled for”.
He slammed the governor on Tuesday in a now-trending post he shared on his official Facebook page.
Igbokwe was reacting to Makinde’s request for the United Nations to launch an independent investigation into the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the state.
The Governor, speaking after the military handed over the rescued victims to him on Monday, said the incident raised questions that required independent scrutiny beyond Nigeria’s domestic institutions.
”The Nigerian people deserve a full and transparent account of what happened, who was responsible, whether there were institutional failures, negligence or collusion at any level, and what measures must now be taken to ensure that no community is ever subjected to such an ordeal again,” he said.

Responding to Makinde’s remarks, Igbokwe noted that the governor has embarrassed himself and the state.
He went on to add that his call for an independent investigation was “reckless, a ruse and totally uncalled for”.
He wrote: “Come ooooo, is Governor Seyi Makinde the only wise man in Nigeria? The way he is wired worries me to the marrow.
”He has embarrassed himself, his state, his image, his status, office etc. This is reckless, a ruse and totally uncalled for.”
