Yilwatda said the stabilisation will translate to economic gains and improve household incomes, employment, food security, and greater opportunities for Nigerians.

As citizens mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day anniversary amid economic hardship, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has assured that the country is gradually moving towards becoming a stronger and more prosperous nation.
He made this known on Thursday via an Independence Day message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki.
According to Yilwatda, the President Bola Tinubu-led administration had no choice but to introduce tough reforms aimed at addressing long-standing structural challenges because it inherited a difficult economic situation.
He went on to cite the removal of the fuel subsidy, foreign exchange reforms, efforts to improve domestic revenue mobilisation, and monetary and fiscal measures as some of the steps taken by the administration.

While acknowledging that the reforms had created significant short-term difficulties for Nigerians, he added that there were signs of macroeconomic stabilisation.
Yilwatda noted that World Bank figures showed Nigeria’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.2 per cent in the first half of 2026, while gross foreign reserves stood at $51.9 billion at the end of July.
He also pointed to developments in the energy sector, digital economy, investment, and social protection as indications of a shift from economic stabilisation towards structural transformation.
He said, “We acknowledge the progress that has been recorded and, more importantly, recognise that the work is not finished.”
Yilwatda added, “Economic stabilisation will now translate more rapidly into improved household incomes, employment, food security, and greater opportunities for our people.”
