Anjarwalla, fleeing Binance Executive located in Kenya, FG commences extradition

Anjarwalla was arraigned in absentia alongside Gambaryan by EFCC on Thursday, April 4, after he escaped from custody on March 22

Binance Regional Manager for Africa,  Nadeem Anjarwalla, who escaped from custody in Nigeria, has been found in Kenya.

According to DAILY POST, a source in the presidency confirmed the development, saying the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the International Criminal Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Kenyan Police Service are collaborating  to effect his extradition.

“We know where he is. He is in Kenya, and we’re working with the authorities to bring him back to Nigeria”, the source said.

Prior to this development, the EFCC chairman, Ola Olukuyede, in a statement last month, informed the Nigerian public that his commission working with INTERPOL, the US, UK, Northern Ireland and Kenyan authorities to effect the arrest of the Binance Executive who is currently on the run.

The financial crime agency also slammed a five-count charge of tax evasion, currency speculation and money laundering against Binance Holdings Limited, its Regional Manager,  Anjarwalla and the company’s Head of Financial Crime Compliance, Tigran Gambaryan.

However, on Thursday, April 4, 2024  Anjarwalla was arraigned in absentia alongside Gambaryan after he escaped from custody on March 22.

Meanwhile, the government confirmed that EFCC had fully taken over the case of Binance from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

For months, the Nigerian government sustained its crackdown on Binance over its role in manipulating the country’s Foreign exchange market.

During the 293rd meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) in February, the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, had said that more than $26 billion had been funnelled through Binance without a trace.
