Anambra State will host its first Green Enterprise and Circular Economy Festival on June 5, 2026, to mark World Environment Day in Awka.

The event is organized by SWEEP Foundation NG with the Anambra State government and the State’s Waste Recyclers Association.

The  event will bring together over 500 stakeholders to turn waste into jobs and business opportunities.

The state generates over 2,000 tons of municipal solid waste daily, yet less than 15% is recycled. The festival will showcase how waste can become raw materials for manufacturing while creating employment for youth.

“This is a marketplace for ideas, partnerships, and capital,” said the Festival Director, SWEEP Foundation NG. “The circular economy means jobs for our youth and cleaner communities.”

According to a press statement by the founder SWEEP Foundation Ambassador Phillip Obuesi, activities for the day include a Green Enterprise Expo with over 50 exhibitors, a policy roundtable on Extended Producer Responsibility with NESREA and ASWRA, a Youth Pitch Arena for 20 startups, live demos from SWEEP’s Material Recovery Facility, and a Financial Inclusion Forum with banks and fintech partners.

Key participants are the Anambra State Ministry of Environment, Coca-Cola, FBRA, NESREA Southeast Zone, Access Bank, UNODC, and manufacturers. International experts will join virtually.

The festival targets 10 offtake agreements between manufacturers and recyclers, 25 new youth-led green enterprises, and positioning Anambra as Southeast Nigeria’s circular economy hub.
