Amotekun: Police barricade Gani Fawehinmi park in Lagos as Yoruba World Congress begins protest in Osun

The police on Tuesday, barricaded the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, Lagos, which was scheduled as the venue for the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSC) code-named Operation Amotekun rally in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, Lagos.

The rally was scheduled to hold today, January 21, 2020, in Lagos and other South West states.

Operation Amotekun is the security outfit floated by South West governors in their bid to curb alleged herdsmen attacks in their region.

Meanwhile, members of the Yoruba World Congress thronged the streets of Osogbo, Osun State capital in solidarity for Operation Amotekun outlawed by the Federal Government 48 hours after its inauguration.

The protesters converged at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park Osogbo at about 9.20 am and marched through major streets of the state capital.

Security operatives, consisting of Police, Department of State Security, Civil Defense Corps were visible in their numbers to ensure that the protest was not hijacked by hoodlums.

The rally was led by the coordinator, Dr. Akin Adejumo, and escorted by the security operatives.
