R&B singer is seriously considering a new Cryptocurrency that is a play on his name.
The new digital currency, according to Akon, will be called AKoin.
Akon, real name, Aliaume Thiam, made the disclosure at Cannes Lions. According to Page Six, AKoin will hopefully be the currency of a place called Akon Crypto City. It’s a “futuristic city” set to be developed on 2,000 acres of land located near Dakar, the capital city of Akon’s birthplace, Senegal.
“I think that blockchain and crypto could be the saviour for Africa in many ways because it brings the power back to the people and brings the security back into the currency system and also allows the people to utilise it in ways where they can advance themselves and not allow government to do those things that are keeping them down,” Akon said.
When asked technical questions, the singer said that he just thinks up the idea and leaves internet geeks to work out the technicalities.
Aside developing Akoin, the singer said that he was considering throwing his hat in the ring for the U.S. presidency in 2020.
“It’s gonna be entertaining, it’s gonna be something worth watching. I’m going to go after Trump and Kanye will get offended because he likes Trump and he’s going to go after me,” he said.
“Then I’m going to go after Kanye and then Trump’s going to get offended because he likes Kanye and he’s going to go after me. And the debate stage will be set where it’s all about me. It’s perfect, a master plan.”
Akon has been involved in Africa with his pet project, Akon Light Up Africa, a solar power project which seeks to provide electricity to homes and offices on the African continent.
