The security of lives and property has been described as a shared responsibility that demands collective efforts from both citizens and government.

This call for collaboration has grown louder following the leaked memo from the Department of State Services (DSS) to the Nigerian Army, which warned of a planned ISWAP attack in parts of Ondo and Kogi States.

In response, the Students’ Union Government of Akoko North-West Local Government Area (ANWSUG) has launched an intensive security sensitisation tour aimed at fostering awareness and cooperation among stakeholders in the region.

The President of ANWSUG, Comrade Ayoola Joshua, led a delegation comprising Comrades Ogidan Ronke and Akadri Champion on a courtesy and advocacy visit to Hon. Ayodele Akande, FCA, the Ondo State Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene on Thursday in Akure.

Speaking during the visit, Comrade Joshua said the security tour was initiated to enlighten residents and leaders on the need for vigilance and proactive measures in the face of rising insecurity.

He explained that their mission to Akure was to engage key figures like Hon. Akande, who has an in-depth understanding of the security situation in Akoko North-West, having previously served as the council’s Executive Chairman.

The ANWSUG President also lauded the Commissioner for his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to community development, expressing hope for continued partnership in youth-driven security initiatives.

In his response, Hon. Akande commended the students for their initiative and described their effort as timely and commendable.

He emphasized that security remains a collective duty and urged the youths to remain united, focused, and consistent in their advocacy for peace and progress.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting youth oriented programmes and projects that contribute to community development and social stability.

Akande also briefed the student leaders on the ongoing interventions within the water sector under his supervision, particularly the “Omi Ìròrùn Water Scheme Projects”, a major initiative under Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s “Our Ease” Agenda.

He noted that the projects are designed to improve access to clean water, enhance public health, and make life more meaningful for residents across Ondo State.

The visit, according to observers, underscores the growing role of youth organizations in promoting community safety, civic engagement, and development across the state.
