Political leaders have been urged to involve more Nigerian Women in politics as they are reliable when it comes to active politics.

A former Council Chairman in Okitipupa, Ondo state, Mrs Morenike, made this known at the 30th Anniversary of Akoko North West local government area of Ondo state in her paper titled “Women in politics; An Anchor of Good Governance at the Grassroots.”

According to her, the sustainability of democracy and good governance at the grassroots has to do with gender balance which she said more women should be given active roles to play.

“I am sure that Nigeria will witness rapid development when more women are allowed for election to all publicly elected bodies; participation in the formulation of government policy and implementation of the same and to hold public office and perform all public function at all levels of government,” she noted.

Alaka, however, urges Nigerian women to fight against what she described as gender inequality, maintaining that women had the power to be advocates of their cause.

However,  the Akoko North West local government Chairman, Elder Ayo Akande has empowered over 100 youths and adults to become entrepreneurs and run successful business ventures, as part of efforts to trim the unemployment rate in the area.

The coordinator of the Skill Acquisition, Mrs Sunday Oluwaseyi Peace, said the participants will be trained in Cosmetology, Make-up & Gele, Cake & confectioneries and Fashion Design to a certified level.

Akande, while addressing the participants said they should be self-reliant and not wait for white-collar jobs.

He added that getting the right skills is a good start saying that the programme was to prepare them adequately to face the future as the leaders of tomorrow.
