Uzodinma’s aide Chinasa Nwaneri warns state broadcaster IBC to vacate premises or risk demolition within 7 days

Chinasa Nwaneri, Senior Special Assistant to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma on Monitoring and Compliance, has given the state owned Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) seven days to vacate its premises in Owerri.
TheNiche had reported how a task force comprising about 15 officials invaded the premises of the state owned broadcaster, armed with red paint and brushes, and marked the walls of the organisation with notices directing it to vacate within three days. No prior notice was served on the corporation, and no reason was given for the action at the time.
In what appears to be a subsequent formalisation of the move, Nwaneri has issued a letter to IBC notifying it of the state government’s intention to recover the property for renovation and redevelopment, with the premises designated for demolition.
The letter, however, did not specify the purpose of the proposed redevelopment or indicate where the broadcaster was expected to relocate.
Addressed to the Broadcasting Corporation, located opposite Ocean Fueling Station in Owerri, the letter described IBC as a tenant and stated that the owner intended to recover possession of the property.
“You are hereby given 7 days notice of owners intention to recover the Imo state Government property at the above address from you,” the letter stated.
The notice, dated October 29, 2026, directed the broadcaster to vacate the premises and hand over vacant possession within seven days of the date of the letter.
Nwaneri, who signed the notice, said he was acting on the authority and directive of Governor Uzodimma.
He warned that the state government would initiate the necessary steps to recover the property after the seven day notice expired, without further recourse to the corporation.
The state government has yet to provide details in the letter about the proposed redevelopment or any arrangements for the broadcaster to continue its operations from another location.
